Itec Cape Town provides assistance to local non-profit organisations

Itec Cape Town recently assisted with providing much needed assistance to YoungPeople@Work, a new generation organisation for unemployed youth formed by previously unemployed youth.

Our team was contacted by Shirley De Jongh (Operations Manager, YoungPeople@Work) with a meeting organised to discuss the organisation and its needs. A site visit was subsequently organised where it was originally determined that only printers were required – one for their admin office and the other for their computer lab. Upon further inspection, the team identified other aspects the organisation required including:

  • Setting up a proper network / Wi-Fi facility
  • The Food Relief Alliance of South Africa (FRASA), the organisation’s sister counterpart, also required 20 small desktop printers for use at their home / offices

The team proceeded to set up 2x Wi-Fi access points as well as all the network cabling required at their offices. This will allow the two offices to have segregated printing with students and admin staff now able to print independently.

The team also installed a colour printer (Bizhub C284e) in the training computer room that allows up to 8 students and a trainer to print. A mono printer with finisher (Bizhub B454) was also installed in the admin offices to assist their admin staff with all their printing needs. 2x boxes of A4 paper was also provided.

In the next few weeks, the team will also roll out Lexmark 1140 and 1145 printers that come complete with a USB cable. 1x ream of paper for each of the 20 FRASA offices will also be provided.

Itec will provide continuous remote support and assistance where required, this includes assisting YoungPeople@Work with their upcoming office move scheduled for the end of February. Itec will oversee the network setup at the new offices ensuring that the same technology solutions at their current offices are also available at the new ones.
